VISUAL INSPECTIONS

The most basic NDT method is Visual Inspection. Visual inspection is used to determine  the condition of a welded joint or a component. Visual inspectors follow procedures that  range from simply looking at a part to see if surface imperfections are visible, to using  computer controlled camera systems to automatically recognize and measure features  of a component. The visual inspector needs a good knowledge of the component being  inspected and/or weld quality.

To carry out a visual inspection, high intensity lighting sources should be used together  with the trained vision of the inspector. Magnification equipment may also be used to  assist the inspection. The item being inspected is thoroughly cleaned prior to the  inspection - this may include simply wiping the item down with a cloth, through to blasting  and chemical cleaning.

All Mikan Services Ltd. inspections are done in  conjunction with detailed visual inspections, and  in most instances are recorded with a digital  camera, with the images downloaded to our  computers.
